Olde Kensington

Olde Kensington is one area on the northern side of Philadelphia that’s almost a perfect square. It has Girard Ave. on the south, N. 5th St. to the west, Cecil B Moore Ave. to the North and Front St. to the east. For a better perspective, it's north of Northern Liberties and west of Fishtown. Like many locations around Philly, its pedestrian-friendly so getting around town is rather easy if you’re on foot. As for commuting via public transportation, there are bus stops and it's near the El that can take you to Center City, West or North Philadelphia or to the Regional Rail services that extend further.

If you want city real estate that still has green space, you’re in luck. Olde Kensington has Handcock Park and the Cruz Recreation Center. There’s also Towey Playground close by, in addition to Penn Treaty Park in Fishtown and Liberty Lands & Orianna Hill Dog Park in Northern Liberties. If you’d rather spend your time relaxing or shopping there are a number of restaurants, bars and eateries that serve Italian, Mexican and American cuisine. You can get groceries – both general and gourmet – at neighborhood locations and the nearby Farmer’s Market during summer months.

Now, as for the homes themselves, housing here is often studio lofts, apartments, condos and townhomes. That means if you’re seeking a single-family home you’re more likely to find that type of real estate in areas like West Philly. The two major home buying markets in Olde Kensington are people seeking a place to homestead or investors. In fact, thanks to the artsy pioneering spirit that’s taken hold of this area in recent years, many prospective landlords have started to come in at the ‘ground floor’ of the area’s rebirth. That’s why a number of developers are turning what was once a thriving manufacturing center into attractive living area today.
